to find life lessons from the book of Esther and then apply those lessons to our lives.  Some students will need to finish these at home.  They need to do at least 3.  Also, we will have a final “KAHOOT” test on Esther next week so students should review that book or their Bible duotangs.

February 12:

I have created a new rubric (marking scheme) for the Genius Hour projects which I will send home in an email this weekend.  Please take time to go over it with your child and discuss where their project fits in the template.

Several students have fallen behind in their Genius Hour Journals.  There should be 4 as of this week, which need to be 5 or 6 sentences long and include not only what students did but also how it’s going, how they are feeling, things to remember etc.

Finally, we worked on our third section of the book of Esther.  Each section has students highlight the text for relevant content (names, places, people etc) and then answer some questions.  All three of these sections should be done by my teaching day next week.

Have a great weekend.

January 22

After each Genius Hour session, students need to write a journal entry, of 4-6 sentences (or more) about what they did, what they learned, what troubles they encountered etc.  This is their only homework from me this week.  I will collect Genius Hour duotangs on Monday and see how everyone is doing.

Jan. 8

This weekend, students need to complete their Genius Hour plan and go through it with parents.  The plan is due Monday so I can approve it.  Next week they need to come to class (on Mr. Wardle day) prepared to work on their projects.

Dec. 10/15

Today I taught students about Binary Code.  They need to finish their assignment of writing the numbers 0-31 in Binary.

Now that students have formulated inquiry questions for both bible and habitats, they are now beginning to research their answers.  I will be sending their duotangs home in the next few weeks as they work on them.  A couple things I’d like to point out:

1.  They are responsible for using at least one physical source of information (website, book, magazine) and at least one human resource (parent, teacher (not me), pastor, friend, industry person).  If you could give some guidance to this that would be great.  Of course for most of them, you parents are the first human resource they think of, and that’s great, but if  they have a chance to talk to a pastor for their bible inquiry and a science person of some sort for their habitat inquiry, that would make it all the more rich (because I’m sure they’ll talk to you about it anyway).

2.  They need to choose a way to present their findings to the class, whether it’s a poster, powerpoint, song….we have been discussing many ways of presenting in class.

3.  This is our first crack at doing this type of inquiry so I don’t expect huge essays, but I do expect it to challenge your child and their abilities.  Please take some time to ask them about their projects and see how they are coming along with their answers.
